When we first started sketching the Vegan Junkies in 2018, we made a promise to ourselves: We will not fall into the vegan restaurant cliches we find everywhere. Falafels and Hummus were quickly banned from our menu with almost the same certainty we banned any sort of animal sourced ingredients in our diet, and damn, we were wrong!
Meeting Yair and Sivan was a humbling lesson for these youngster pretentious entrepreneurs thinking they knew all about food. In fact, eating Push Tak’s Hummus and falafels proved we knew nothing. Dried chickpeas, soaked in water and bay leaves for hours to get rid of all its toxic gases, then carefully smashed with herbs and garlic, and shallow fried in extra virgin olive oil. Holy shit, where have you been all this time? It was love at first sight. And when we discovered their dancing routines while cooking their S’Hug sauce on Instagram we felt compelled to get down on our knees and beg them to let us be the third wheel.
Push Tak takes pride in making the best Israeli food in town, and we are proud to call them our friends. If there is anything better than being right, it is being proven wrong, with delicious food.
