“Not-tuna” Tacos

“Not-tuna” tacos consist of rice paper taco shells and an incredible watermelon marinated “tuna”. Aren’t you intrigued already? Keep on reading to know how to make these beautiful oriental tacos.

They are not really tacos indeed. this recipe is a fusion between oriental cuisine and Mexican cuisine with a vegan touch. I got inspired by another girl doing recipes on reels and I tried to remake her recipe without any dairy, meat, or fish.

Here’s what you need for the “Not-tuna” Tacos

Rice Paper for the taco shells

Watermelon

Soy sauce

Rice vinegar

Seaweed

Goma wakame

Black and white sesame seeds

Avocado

Hot sauce of your choice I would recommend sriracha

Procedure

Let’s start by heating up a nonstick pan with some seed oil until really hot. Grab 3 rice paper. I usually get them from the Asian market, here in Lisbon my favorite it’s in Martim Moniz and it’s called Amanhecer, here’s the link if you are interested. With this rice paper, you can create different recipes: rice paper dumplings and summer rolls to name a few.

When the oil will be really hot, place the rice paper on the pan and with the help of a spatula fry it until it becomes withe and crispy. Here’s some advice: Try to make a shell by folding a bit the rice paper.

For the tuna marinade, cut a juicy watermelon into cubes, and in a pot add a lot of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and seaweed that you should have already cut into small pieces.

Let marinate for 1 night.

Now, it’s time to assemble the oriental tacos. Place the rice taco shell on a plate, fill it with the tuna watermelon marinade, and top with some avocado cubes.

Add the Goma wakame which is a seaweed salad I always order when I go to a Japanese restaurant. I also got it from Amanhecer. Then sprinkle some white and black sesame seed on top and enjoy.

Let me know if you enjoy these asian tacos and if you want to see more fusion recipes, I have already a few in mind for the future. Stay tuned for more recipes.
